You must not permit your stud dog to be used for breeding until he is about a year old, and even then he must be bred to a mature, confirmed matron who is already familiar to breeding. Doing this will make his first experience enjoyable and easy. Keep in mind that a youthful dog can be put off permanently by a female dog who fights and resists his advances. Never allow this happen. Always begin a stud dog out with a female dog who is adult, has been bred previously, and is of even temperament.
The first breeding must be performed in a calm surrounding with simply you and one other person to hold the female dog. Do not make it a show, as the experience will decide the dog’s outlook about potential stud work. If your stud does not like the first experience or links it with something that is unpleasant, you may have a trouble breeding him again in the future.
