Hello, my name is Jan Hyams and I am a Canine Behaviour Advisor.  I started to study Canine Psychology and behaviour problems in 1994 whilst working in a Veterinary Clinic in Cornwall. 

Since then I have completed a number of courses and I attend various seminars and workshops to keep myself updated with the latest canine education.  I am currently studying with the Cambridge Institute of Dog Behaviour and Training.

I am a member of the CFBA www.cfba.co.uk and of the European PDTE www.pet-dog-trainers-europe.com.  Both of these Associations have a very strict code of practise to which all members must abide.  I run my own behavioural business www.caninecodes.co.uk , I am the Behavioural Advisor to a local dog training school and I am vet recommended.

As owners we sometimes need to take advice on problems that may require more of a professional guidance, this is where I may be able to help you.  Whilst I will do whatever I can to help solve these problems, however certain behaviours will not be appropriate to advise on or modify over a forum.  In these instances you may need a behavioural advisor to visit your home; I can hopefully point you in the right direction in finding one. 

I deal with dogs from various backgrounds from abused puppies to rescue dogs that are there through no fault of their own.  Some will come with many problems where they will need much patience and many months of rehabilitation, some have no background history so we have to start with basic understanding to help them through. 

Whilst I normally work on a 1-2-1 basis visiting homes and meeting the dogs in question I will not have this privilege on the forum.  It is because of this that I must include a disclaimer.  All information and advice given over this forum is intended as a guideline and I cannot be held responsible for the misuse of any advice given.
